New York State Barge Canal System maintenance contract plans, [ca. 1923] -1970.

This series consists of original linen plans and drawings delineating maintenance contracts assigned for the New York State Barge Canal System. After the completion of the Barge Canal System in the mid-1920's appropriations were authorized for the maintenance and operations of the Barge Canal System (Chapter 32, Laws of 1924).

Although surveys were made when the reservoir system was created by the Department of Public Works to serve the state canal system (early 19th through 20th century), the boundary lines of state property were not clearly defined, especially in the Adirondack region.
